Product Description

SSAW Carbon Steel Pipe for Large-Diameter Infrastructure Projects

Low-carbon or low-alloy steel strips are the starting point for SSAW Carbon Steel Pipe. At a fixed spiral angle, workers shape those strips. The seam is then closed with double-sided submerged arc welding. Narrower coils can still produce outer diameters from 219 mm up to 3620 mm. Waste of raw material drops, and project costs stay under control. Approximately 20000 tons of steel products sit in stock at Tianjin Youcheng Technology. For standard orders, 7–10 days is the normal lead time. Mill Test Certificates come with every shipment.

What Is This Product?

Spiral forming adds a structural trait that straight-seam choices lack. Along the pipe wall, the weld travels at an angle. More of the cross-section carries internal pressure and outside load. Those forces do not gather on one longitudinal line.

Large-diameter work depends on that spread. Water mains are one case. Transmission pipelines count as another. Load-bearing piles also call for it. That is one reason SSAW becomes the more practical pick when diameters are larger than LSAW can economically make from the same coil width. Projects that need a balance between performance and material cost also gain from it.

Coating Options for Different Project Conditions

Picking a coating comes down to three things. Where the pipe gets installed. What flows through it. Which service standard applies. On infrastructure jobs, the four systems below handle most of the cases that turn up.

3PE (Three-Layer Polyethylene) is made of three parts. Underneath sits a fusion bonded epoxy base layer. In the middle there is an adhesive layer. A polyethylene jacket wraps the outside. Buried oil and gas pipelines have to fight corrosion for years. For that job, this is the standard external coating.

FBE (Fusion Bonded Epoxy) suits gas service work that must meet API 5L PSL2. Before the pipe ships out, someone checks the coating. Cathodic disbondment and adhesion tests show it is still intact.

Inside drinking water pipes, we apply Epoxy White Ceramic. Two points count most. Water needs to flow without trouble. The surface also has to stay safe over time.

For sewage lines and irrigation lines, Bitumen 3-Coat 2-Cloth is used. Pipe can get eaten away when soil stays wet. Chemicals in the ground make it worse. That is why the coating forms a tough barrier that holds up.

Quality Control Process

Every pipe length we make gets inspected. We do not use sampling. That means nothing gets skipped. Rules for this work come from API 5L and the matching GB/T standards.

X-ray inspection and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) run the whole way along the spiral weld seam. This is how slag inclusions get picked up. The same goes for porosity and lack-of-fusion defects. A visual check on its own will miss every one of them.

Hydrostatic testing shows a pipe can hold its rated pressure. It also proves the pipe does not leak. Each test runs under the operating conditions set out for that grade.

Mechanical property tests cover tensile, guided-bend, and Charpy V-notch impact. Yield strength gets measured, and so does elongation. Toughness is checked too. That way the pipe can be matched against the grade it was ordered to.

Ovality, wall thickness tolerance, and end-squareness are all measured per API 5L. An MTC goes out with every shipment. Chemical analysis is written into it. So are the mechanical test results and the NDT reports.

Application Scenarios

Oil and Gas Midstream Pipelines

SSAW Carbon Steel Pipe goes into long-distance transmission lines. Most of them run grades X52 through X70. Pressure stays consistent along extended pipeline routes, and the spiral seam shape helps make that happen.

Municipal Water and Drainage Systems

Diameter goes up to 3620 mm. That size range suits high-volume water supply mains. Drainage trunks work too, and so do sewage collector lines. Inside, the coating is picked to match the transported medium. It can be epoxy white ceramic or bitumen.

Civil Engineering and Piling

Harbor projects and bridge foundations use these pipes as load-bearing piles. Coated on the outside with 3PE or FBE, they hold up in deep water. Corrosive soil is no problem either. Bare pipe would give out in those conditions.

Structural Applications

Over long spans you need wall thickness that stays consistent and dimensions that are accurate. That is where Q235B and Q345B grades come in. The pressure rating is not what sets the spec here.

Customization and Supply of SSAW Carbon Steel Pipe

Outer diameter, wall thickness and length are set to match your project drawing or national standard. End type gets the same treatment. So do the coating system and the material grade. OEM orders built to different specifications are accepted too.

Roughly 200 tons of steel products sit in our stock right now. Standard orders for SSAW Carbon Steel Pipe leave in about 7–10 days. Logistics for exports to Kuwait, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, and Kenya are already in place, and we cover other markets as well. Every order carries a Certificate of Compliance and a Mill Test Certificate.

FAQ

Q: In practice, what really separates SSAW pipe from LSAW pipe?

A: SSAW gets larger diameters out of the same coil width. That is what makes it cheaper for large water supply and piling projects, where the diameter range of LSAW is a limiting factor.

Q: In buried installations, how do you keep corrosion under control?

A: An external coating goes on the pipe. Oil and gas lines get 3PE or FBE. For sewage work it is bitumen 3-coat 2-cloth. Cathodic disbondment and adhesion checks are done before shipment.

Q: Will these pipes hold up in high-pressure gas service?

A: Pipes built to API 5L PSL2 must pass NDT. Stricter chemical and mechanical rules apply as well. That makes them a fit for high-pressure gas transmission, where PSL2 is the level that gets specified.

Q: What keeps the spiral offset in check while the pipe is being produced?

A: Automatic centering and forming systems hold butt-joint deviation inside 10% of the wall thickness. That lines up with what API 5L tolerances allow.

Q: What paperwork is included with every delivery?

A: An MTC comes with each load. Inside it you get the chemical analysis and the mechanical test results. NDT reports are part of the package too.

Q: Can I order custom lengths and end finishes?

A: Yes. Fixed lengths can be set to your specs. Beveled ends are available. Protective end caps can be included as well. All of it depends on what your project calls for.
