Product Description

Heat Resistant Steel Strip for High-Temperature Industrial Applications — Grades 310S, 321 & More

Industrial parts often need to keep running above 600°C. That makes material choice a big deal. Heat resistant steel strip comes in grades like 310S and 321. It holds mechanical strength and resists oxidation over a continuous service range of 500°C to 1200°C. Tianjin Youcheng Technology keeps approximately 200 tons in stock. Thickness goes from 0.2 mm to 16 mm. Widths are 1000 mm, 1219 mm, and 1500 mm. Standard production lead time is 7 to 10 days. Paperwork is available for ASTM A240. GB/T 3280 and EN 10088 are also covered.

Heat Resistant Steel Strip

What Is This Product?

This product stands out for higher levels of Chromium (Cr). Nickel (Ni) and Silicon (Si) are also present in higher amounts. These alloying elements help form a stable Cr₂O₃ oxide layer on the surface. That layer limits more oxidation scaling when operating temperatures are high.

Standard austenitic stainless steels start to lose load-bearing capacity above about 600 to 700°C. Heat resistant grades are made to push that limit much higher. That makes them a practical pick for parts that face sustained heat. They also suit parts with repeated thermal cycles. Harsh chemical atmospheres are another fit.

Heat changes how parts wear out. At high temperatures, three types of degradation are the main concern:

  • Oxidation scaling: hot oxidizing gas sits against the metal for hours on end. Over time it eats the surface away
  • Creep deformation: high heat plus a steady load on the part makes it stretch little by little. Strain builds up as the hours pass
  • Thermal fatigue: temperatures rise and fall again and again. The part grows and shrinks each cycle, and cracks show up that way

Choosing a grade is not a hunch you take. The chemistry of the alloy has to match the heat the part will see. What it touches, chemically, counts too.

Where the atmosphere oxidizes, Grade 310S runs nonstop at up to 1050–1100°C. Grade 321 owes its stability to titanium. Heat that grade over and over and it does not wear down. Intergranular corrosion stays away as well. Silicon sits in these grades for a reason. Carburization finds it harder to get started, and the protective oxide scale keeps its hold on the surface over long service runs.

Material Properties & Performance Characteristics

How well this product performs in service comes down to the alloy mix inside it. The protective Cr₂O₃ film is built by chromium. Nickel holds the austenitic structure steady. Toughness comes out of that structure. Welding also becomes easier at high temperatures.

Key performance characteristics include:

  • Creep-rupture strength, so a steady load at high heat does not let slow deformation get out of hand
  • A coefficient of thermal expansion that stays under control, so dimensions hold steady through thermal cycling
  • Carburization does not get to it in chemical processing atmospheres. Sulfidation and nitriding do not affect it there either.
  • Oxidation is not a threat, even in mildly reducing environments. The same holds true in oxidizing ones.

Cold-rolled thin coils are available. So are hot-rolled heavy coils. Buyers can then pick between tight dimensional tolerances and heavier section thicknesses.

Application Scenarios

Industrial Furnace Technology

Heating elements sit in oxidizing air for long stretches. Conveyor belts do too. Furnace muffles face the same conditions. Whatever metal goes into these parts has to last, and it cannot flake off scale along the way. Loose scale then lands in the product stream and spoils it. That is why heat resistant steel strip turns up so often in this kind of component.

Automotive and Aerospace Engineering

Fast temperature swings put real stress on exhaust manifolds. Turbocharger housings deal with the same thing. Parts on the combustion side also meet hot gas rushing past. At the heat these uses reach, grades like 310S and 321 keep a strength-to-weight ratio that works.

Energy and Petrochemical Production

Sustained high heat puts stress on heat exchangers. Boiler hangers deal with it as well. Cracking tubes carry the same load. In heat resistant grades, the alloy mix is what fights creep. It also guards against hydrogen embrittlement when a unit runs without stopping.

Food processing equipment uses this material too, and so do chemical process lines. Water treatment plants rely on it as well. In architecture, it turns up wherever corrosion resistance and surface quality are what matter most.

Quality Control Process for Heat Resistant Steel Strip

Every shipment gets its dimensions measured first. Chemical composition is also verified. Then we check the surface condition. Mill Test Certificates come along as standard documentation.

Inspection Item Method / Standard
Chemical Composition Analysis OES / XRF verification of Cr, Ni, Si content
Dimensional & Surface Inspection Ultrasonic / Eddy current testing

Custom Processing & Supply Options

Standard coils can be ordered straight from stock. Custom processing is possible as well, arranged to fit what your production needs. Services we can provide include:

  • Slitting into narrow strips at custom widths
  • Leveling for flatness-critical applications
  • Cut-to-length sheet production
  • OEM and ODM orders are both supported. Need a certain grade? We can match it. Dimensions and surface finish can be worked out with you as well.

Roughly 200 tons sit in stock. Production takes 7–10 days. So orders usually get filled without long waits.

FAQ

Q: How hot is the highest temperature that this product can handle while being used all the time?

A: Grade 310S works nonstop in oxidizing environments at temperatures as high as 1050–1100°C. Whether to choose a different grade, like 321, depends on the chemicals that will be used and the temperature range.

Q: How does creep change the way you pick a material?

A: Creep is when a part slowly changes shape. It gets worse when metal is under a lot of stress for a long time and is hot. Choose a strip that can withstand the load it will be put under without breaking. That keeps things from being too loose. Also, they don't break after a long time of use.

Q: Is welding possible on this product, and can you also supply custom cutting and slitting?

A: Yes, both points hold. Austenitic grades only work with filler metals whose chemistry matches. Control of heat input matters just as much. Do both and hot cracking stays away. Corrosion resistance at the weld zone also stays intact. As for the strips, they can be slit to whatever width a buyer needs. Set lengths are possible too. Surface finish can be made to order. OEM/ODM work is offered as well.

Q: What is the reason Silicon goes into heat resistant grades?

A: Silicon makes a carburizing grade harder. The protective oxide scale stays stuck to the surface because of it. Run that in a high-carbon atmosphere and service life gets longer.

Q: How is heat resistant steel different from plain stainless steel?

A: Chromium is in both of them. The split comes down to how much alloy each one carries. This product packs in more alloy. That is why it still holds a load once the heat rises. Standard stainless grades fail at those same temperatures. Strength falls away fast, and the metal starts to bend out of shape.
